On Friday night around 11:00, I got a burst of energy and decided to get some more things organized in the nursery. I finally felt more energized and comfortable than I had in a long time. I should have known that I was nesting!
Saturday morning at 6:00AM I got up to use the restroom and that's when my water broke. I was so surprised and excited! I heard that only 20% of women experience their water breaking, so I had assumed I wouldn't experience that and would go all the way until my scheduled c-section on June 26th.
I woke up Nathan to tell him and he got up right away to call the doctor. When the doctor answered Nathan said, "Hi, this is Nathan Elliott and my water broke!" I had to say... "No, MY water broke!" It was pretty funny! I needed the comic relief!
We left for the hospital right away and I was feeling the contractions come on. When we got there they looked at the babies and saw that the boy was still breech. They immediately started prepping for my c-section.
I was very nervous, but very excited that we'd soon meet our little ones! The nurse wheeled me into the OR at about 10:15 AM. They sat me on the operating table and gave me a spinal. It was the weirdest, yet best feeling ever! They laid me down immediately and I went numb from my chest down. It felt really good not feeling all that pressure and pain of the last few weeks. I started to get nauseous and as soon as those words left my lips, the anesthesiologist gave me something in my IV that took it away. London Parker arrived at 10:30 AM and Lyla Jane followed right behind him at 10:31 AM. They sure had a good set of lungs on them! I've never been so moved and happy to hear babies cry. They both looked great and were very healthy.
The nurse saw that London was breathing somewhat fast so they decided to run some blood tests on him. They found he had a very minor blood infection. They could have opted not to give him anything for it because it wasn't bad and would probably clear up on its own, but they decided to fail conservative and put him on 7 days of antibiotics. This meant our little guy had to spend 7 days in the NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit).
We hardly ever missed one of his feedings, so we got to see him at least 5 times during the day and we each took turns going to his feedings throughout the night.
Since they had him on monitors 24/7, they saw that his oxygen levels would dip every now and then. Since the monitor showed this (even though it'd probably say the same of any baby), they had to give him an oxygen tube.
London also had to have a spinal tap to make sure the blood infection didn't get to the spine and cause Meningitis. Thankfully that came back negative!
Now, London's blood infection is totally gone and he's still on oxygen, but will be off of it soon. It's really only there for hospital rules, but even they said he'd be fine without it. We are so happy to have him home!!!
Lyla is doing great. She had her first Pediatric doctor visit yesterday and she passed all the tests with flying colors. London's appointment is Monday and we should find out then when we can totally remove the oxygen.
We are so in love with these babies. They are both so sweet and very easy going. We couldn't have asked for anything more!!
